This training is targeted at people with little or no Cloud Foundry experience but some experience delivering web-based applications. If you're curious to learn how Cloud Foundry can help you focus on development and innovation, rather than infrastructure plumbing, this is the right course for you.

Mobile-first and cloud-native become basic requirements of enterprise IT cloud architectures. Please join us as we leverage third-party cloud, like OpenStack to power services for Cloud Foundry applications! Cloud Foundry will provide services such as MySQL by default, but managed as external services. In a traditional deployment, CF would deploy a MySQL cluster via BOSH and would “create DATABASE” for each service instance (which can lead to fairly complex environments). This year (2015) has seen a series of key architectural changes to CF services. Mainly adding the ability for all service operations to be done asynchronously, adding arbitrary parameters to all service operations, and finally, externalizing credentials so that service keys can be created from a service without having to bind the service to an app. While seemingly a set of simple changes, in actuality these changes really result in "CF Services 3.0" where the space for user stories around all CF services that are supporting these features has just increase significantly. In this talk we will brush up on the technical details for these three CF services changes and give a laundry list of use cases that are made possible by these additions.

In this talk we cover how in just four months for our client, GE, we built an Open Source Highly Available PostgreSQL CF Service by utilizing various open source technologies together with custom daemons and deployed the end product as a BOSH release via Concourse Pipelines (Release & Deployment). We describe the architecture: the open source technologies used (and why we choose them), custom daemons, and pipelines. We also cover unique challenges we faced when building the desired features of this PostgreSQL service, features such as: CF SB Integration, High Availability, Fault Tolerance, Self Healing, Disaster Recovery, Multi-Data Center(AZ), Scaling Up and Scaling Out. Additionally, we will cover challenges which only revealed themselves under load within production and never within the confines of the release and development pipelines.

In many cases, users want to setup a Cloud Foundry environment quickly to check some new features, test some significant changes, verify the update or upgrade processes, etc. Automation is important for these kinds of needs.
IBM BlueMix is built on top of Cloud Foundry and has set up several dedicated environments for clients. We have an automation mechanism with necessary standardization to centrally manage the BlueMix environments located in different Data Centers in the world. With this, we are able to build the Cloud Foundry environment in a few hours with “ONE button” only. It also supports users to review log information from web UI for debugging and analysis.
In this session, I would like to share the experiences of the automation practice we are using and interact with the industry users on the best practices.

Enabling Cloud Native Security with Multi-Tenant UAA - William Tran, Pivotal

UAA, as a core component of Cloud Foundry, is responsible for authenticating and authorizing requests between platform users (e.g. those that push apps) and platform components (e.g. the cloud controller). But when it came to doing auth for the apps you push and the end users of those apps, using the built-in UAA wasn't the best fit, and you could easily end up shooting yourself in the foot. Until now. This talk will guide you though UAA's new multi-tenancy features, and show you how to use the built-in UAA to create arbitrary authorization scenarios for your products without the danger of affecting the security of the core platform. With this level of freedom, you'll have complete and fine-grained control over who is allowed to access your product's components, and how those components are allowed to interact with one another.

Motivation
CF Operators want the ability to isolate workloads across separate networks, iaas’s, and datacenters to meet compliance, availability, and cost requirements. CF Operators expect to achieve this isolation without the added overhead of managing multiple full installs of Cloud Foundry.

Goal
The goal of this set of features is to enable the cloud controller to address multiple runtime clusters and assign application placement by mapping a Cloud Foundry Space to a cluster. We intend to create a new bosh deployment, a Cloud Foundry Elastic Cluster, that includes the diego runtime components, routing tier, and logging components. The cloud controller will have added functionality to allow operators to manage Elastic Clusters of CF capacity via the api.

Pivotal Network (network.pivotal.io) is a Rails application that allows users to download PCF and Pivotal Data products. PivNet’s acceptance, staging, and production environments are currently running on Cloud Foundry.

The PivNet team has recently automated our builds, database backups, service integrations, smoke tests, and deployments using Concourse. This level of automation has enabled the team to move more quickly while delivering features to our customers, and has drastically reduced the amount of time spent on these processes.

Concourse has added reliability and stability to all of these processes while providing the team with a dashboard to see and better understand the exact state of each environment.

This talk will include an overview of how we achieved one-button, daily deployments to production via Concourse, as well as tips and tricks we learned along the way.
